The less oil the world uses, the less important the region that has so much of it becomes.

Another is Saudi Arabia's, which uses its oil wealth to propagate an extreme form of Islamic fundamentalism known as Wahhabism, which has inspired many Middle Eastern terrorists, including those who attacked New York and Washington on 9/11. That means that by consuming so much oil, the U.S. is in effect fighting a war against terrorism while funding both sides.

While the world will not be able to do entirely without Middle Eastern oil for many decades, substantially lowering the amount of oil we use would reduce the region's significance while shifting the balance of power between producers and consumers in favor of consumers — that is, in favor of the U.S. and its friends.

规范语法规定，两句完整句要用semicolon分隔。并列句用comma，但最后一句要用并列连词连接。这些规定都是有原因的，不是没事找事，硬要你接受的规条。

 

例：She is rich。He will marry her。用句号分隔两句，表示两句独立，没有因果从属关系。

 

如果这两句有因果从属关系，想说得清清楚楚的，就要用主句/从句的结构。那么这两句就可以衍生好几个不同意思的句子：

 

1．  Because she is rich, he will marry her.

2．  Although she is rich, he will marry her.

3．  If she is rich, he will marry her.

等等。

 

如果想含蓄一点，不想得罪人，英语可以用并列连词处理：

 

1．  She is rich, and he will marry her。这一句一般会理解为：Because she is rich, he will marry her。但前者可以争辩为有其他意思，所以比较含蓄。后者则不留余地。

 

2．  She is rich, or he’ll marry her。这一句一般会理解为：Because she is rich, he will NOT marry her。同样前者可以争辩为有其他意思，所以比较含蓄。后者则不留余地。

 

3．  She is rich, but he will marry her。这一句一般会理解为：Although she is rich, he will marry her。同样前者可以争辩为有其他意思，所以比较含蓄。后者则不留余地。

 

4．  She is rich, for he will marry her，这一句就特别含蓄，意思可以是：She must be rich, because he will marry her。同样前者可以争辩为有其他意思，所以比较含蓄。后者则不留余地。

 

这里用comma 去表示两句有一定的因果从属关系，而用并列连词去限定什么因果从属关系。

 

如果你想更加含蓄，两句可以用semicolon去分隔：She is rich；he will marry her。两句就不是并列句，不用并列连词，让你留有无限想象空间。用semicolon 就是要让你明白两句有一定的因果从属关系，但没有说明是什么，以达到含蓄的目的。

 

用comma去分隔的是并列句，有一定的因果从属关系，要用并列连词去限定什么因果从属关系。所以只用comma去分隔的两句，就给人一个“意犹未尽”的感觉，有“那么第三句如何呀？”的感觉。

 

语法规范，是有一定的道理的，不是死板板就是要你跟从的。

 

不要走捷径。每一个语言都有 exceptions，但不要让这些 exceptions 成为你不学好基础语法的借口。
